The Ganga running fast through a forested gorge above Rishikesh

Safety

Safety & what to expect

Rafting is an adventure sport with real risk. Here is exactly how we manage it — read this before you book.

Equipment

What we put on you

  • ISI-marked high-float life jacket, fitted by our crew
  • Impact-rated helmet in adult and child sizes
  • Guide paddle and rafter paddles checked before every trip
  • Throw bags, flip lines and rescue rope on every raft
  • Safety kayak on Grade III+ stretches and all expeditions
  • First-aid kit at base, on the road vehicle and on the river

Briefing

What we cover before launch

  • Paddle commands — forward, back, stop, hold on
  • Seating, foot placement and how to brace in a rapid
  • What to do if you go in the water, and how to get back in
  • Swimmer signals and the guide's whistle codes
  • Where the safety kayak sits through each rapid
  • Who on the raft is a non-swimmer or has a medical condition

Limits

Age and stretch requirements

Brahmpuri (9 km)

Age 8+, guardian in the same raft

Clubhouse (12 km)

Age 10+

Shivpuri (16 km)

Age 12+

Marine Drive (24 km)

Age 12+, basic fitness

Kaudiyala (36 km)

Age 14+, comfortable in moving water

Devprayag expedition

Age 16+, must be able to swim

Rafters over 100 kg should tell us in advance so we balance the raft. One certified guide per raft, maximum eight guests, and a safety kayak lead on the bigger water.

Swimming and water confidence

You do not need to be a strong swimmer on the shorter stretches — the life jacket does the floating. You do need to stay calm if you end up in the water, and you must tell your guide at the briefing if you are a non-swimmer. Swimming ability is required for the Devprayag expedition.

Medical declarations

Tell us before you book about heart conditions, epilepsy, asthma, recent surgery, back or shoulder injury, pregnancy, or anything affecting mobility. We are not doctors and we will not guess — sometimes the honest answer is that a raft is not the right place for that day.

When we cancel

We cancel for high or rising water, thunderstorms, poor visibility, or any administrative closure of the river — including the annual monsoon closure from roughly late June to mid September. If we cancel, you get a full refund or a free reschedule. Alcohol and drugs are not permitted before or during a trip, and our guides will refuse a rafter who is intoxicated.
