About this stretch
At Devprayag the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda meet and the Ganga begins. Putting a raft in here is not a day trip — it is an expedition down seventy kilometres of river, through gorges most visitors only see from a bus window, with a night on a sandbank in between.
Day one is the committing one: continuous water, long read-and-run sections, and a camp made from what the rafts carry. The evening is fire, food, and a canyon so quiet you notice your own ears. Day two runs the famous Rishikesh rapids as a finale, arriving at the take-out with the river behind you.
This trip runs on limited departures, needs advance booking, and expects a basic level of fitness and river sense. Everyone on board should be comfortable swimming in moving water and prepared to help carry, cook and rig.
